Google has just announced that they haved opened up Google Talk to be able to communicate with other Jabber servers. While this is a far cry from opening Talk up completely so that it can talk to other flavours of IM clients, it is certainly a large step towards that. Jabber is the least well known of the major IMs out there but it is the only one of the majors to be open source. While in many ways not as polished, Jabber allows some useful features worth checking out.
Nice move Google. Walk the Talk.
